Dan In Real Life

One of the most interesting parts of the evening was when we talked about the pivot points in our lives, many of which occurred when our plans for our lives didn't work out (Question 7). We decided that the pivot points can feel either positive or negative, pleasant or unpleasant, and yet either type of pivot point can result in either expanding our choices in life and our thoughts about what the universe can provide for us, or reducing them.

We also commented about how it's sometimes wise to conceal our true emotions (Question 2) when we're around people who aren't interested in hearing them or who might use that information against us. Nevertheless, we can also conceal our true emotions from people who really need to know how we feel, like lovers and family, and that can result in our giving up parts of ourselves in order to appease others, which makes us shut down and become less true to ourselves (Question 4).

Feel free to come and share your own personal insights sometime; the Saturday Night Video and Discussions here in Austin, Texas are a lot of fun and fascinating. (They're free, too.) Here are the questions the group came up with, based on the personal growth themes in the movie:

  2. What prevents me from expressing my true emotions?
  3. How does rejection affect me?
  4. How much of myself do I give up to appease others?
  5. How do I deal with loss?
  6. How do I handle it when it feels like everybody's against me?
  7. How do I handle it when my plans don't work out?
  8. What did I plan for my life? How did it work out?
  9. What was my best surprise EVER?
